HURRICANE RELIEF
Compatriots,
On February 7, 2025, Virginia Division Adjutant John Winebarger, presented the Smyth County Chamber of Commerce President, Sarah Beth Gillispie, a check in the amount of $9,302.19 from the Virginia Division Sons of Confederate Veterans to help folks in southwest Virginia affected by hurricane Helene. This was in addition to the truckloads of supplies individual Camps delivered to communities in North Carolina and southwestern Virginia immediately following the storm.
The Virginia Division's gift purchased building supplies, heaters, and propane tanks for the people who suffered damage or total loss during the storm. SCV Camps across the Old Dominion began raising funds almost immediately after America learned about the damage caused by Hurricane Helene. Mrs. Gillispie gave the SCV a very special “Thank You” for everything we did to help during this time of need.
John has been the point of contact for the majority of supply trucks and trailers the SCV sent to southwest Virginia following the horrific storms. He has done a yeoman's work communicating with communities in need and getting their information to SCV Camps quickly so supplies could be collected and transported to those affected by the hurricane.
John’s compassion, dedication, and hard work are greatly appreciated and are the very same qualities demonstrated by the Camps, members, and supporters who worked to collect and deliver supplies and monetary donations. We can all be proud of your honorable service. You have done your duty.
Thank you to all who stepped up when needed. We ARE the SCV and THIS is what we do!
